What does a merchant need to get started?
An Internet Merchant Account with any of the major national
banks which offer online merchant services.
A merchant & terminal ID supplied by your bank, configured
for the SecurePay Online Gateway.
If you need help obtaining these items, please contact our
Customer Support Representative for assistance on 1300 786
756.
Why do I need a Merchant Account?
A merchant account enables your business to accept credit
card payments for sales or services.
Do I need to change banks?
No, unless the bank you currently deal with does not offer
an Internet Merchant Account facility.
SecurePay processes credit card transactions through Advance
Bank, ANZ Bank, Bank of Melbourne, Bank of SA, Bank West,
Commonwealth Bank, Challenge Bank, National Australia Bank,
St George Bank, and Westpac Bank merchant accounts. If your
bank is not listed here, please contact SecurePay for assistance.
What credit cards are accepted by the
SecurePay gateway?
SecurePay accepts Visa, Mastercard, Bankcard, American
Express, Diners Club, and JCB.
What payment options are available?
SecurePay offers solutions for online payments, pay-by-phone,
call centres, direct debits, and more.
What are the hours of operation for
the SecurePay system?
SecurePay's Payment Server runs 24-hours a day, every day,
so businesses never miss a sale.
If a customer makes a payment by mistake,
pays too much, or wishes to return an item, can a merchant
refund the customer's money?
SecurePay allows both refunds and reversals through our
gateway.
Reversals can be done for the full amount of a payment, any
time before close of banking on the transaction's settlement
date. Reversed transactions will not appear on your customer's
credit card statement.
Refunds can be performed at any time, and can be a full or
partial refund of the customer's payment. Multiple refunds
may be performed on a transaction until the balance of the
transaction is zero.
Refunds and reversals can be perforned through most of SecurePay's
software, and for convenience, may be done online from our
website's Secure Merchant Login facility.
Can SecurePay preauthorise funds on
a customer's credit card for later payment?
Preauthorisation allows SecurePay to check an amount on a
customer's credit card and reserve the funds if available.
When required, another transaction is performed to capture
the funds. The customer's bank will normally free up preauthorised
funds which have not been completed within 7 days, making
these funds available to the customer, and no longer reserved
by the merchant.
Preauthorisation is available through SecurePay, but only
through certain banks. Contact SecurePay to find out if your
bank has this functionality.
What hardware/software do I need to
offer online transactions through SecurePay?
Any Web/commerce server that conforms to the HTTP/1.0 standard
(virtually every Web server currently operating) can utilize
the SecurePay credit card gateway. All that is required is
for the merchant Web site to incorporate a form into their
final "checkout" page.
Is the customer redirected away from
the merchant web site?
No. The SecurePay payment form can be opened inside a frame
within the merchant's web site.
Does a company need to be registered
as a Merchant with SecurePay to use its services?
Yes. Each business using the SecurePay service must be
registered as a SecurePay Merchant.
What confirmation of payments will
I receive from SecurePay?
SecurePay will send you an ASCII file to a nominated e-mail
address every morning at 3:00 (EST). This report contains
details of all transactions passed through the SecurePay Payment
Gateway. If a merchant uses more than one SecurePay product
(i.e. phone payments via IVR and internet payments via their
website), transactions through all products are compiled into
one itemised report each day.
What is the format of the Daily ASCII
Report File? Does it match the format supplied by Australia
Post?
The reports are fully customisable, and can contain any
transaction details that SecurePay stores itself. We can insert
header and trailer lines, as well as provide the total number,
and total value of all transactions for the last 24 hours.
Australia Post has four different file formats, and all of
these can be replicated by SecurePay.
Can SecurePay handle transactions originated
outside Australia?
Yes. Just as anyone travelling overseas is able to pay
for goods and services with their credit card, any cardholder
with an appropriate card may make a payment using SecurePay.
The transaction is conducted in Australian Dollars and the
foreign currency conversion is then handled by the customer's
home bank.
Does SecurePay perform instant online
credit card validation?
Yes, the customer can expect to receive a response from
their bank through the SecurePay system in real time.
Can SecurePay perform large batch validation?
Yes. SecureBatch allows a merchant to upload a list of
transactions during the day, which will be processed at midnight
that night.
The SecurePay system, however, eliminates the need for large
batch validation, as the customer is able to pay for goods
and services from the merchant in real time over the Internet.
What are the ongoing fees?
Just like every person is unique, every account we sell
is unique to you and your business, therefore we can not state
a price until we know more about the account you need. SecurePay
offers fixed price fees for all our services. Call 1300 786
756 and ask to speak to a Sales Representative for charges
pertinent to your situation.
What validity checks does SecurePay's
software perform for me?
SecurePay's Client software checks basic field validity
before sending a transaction to our Payment Server. We check
that all mandatory data has been entered, as well as validity
of fields such as the credit card number, expiry date, and
amount. Merchants are not charged for transactions which do
not pass these basic tests.
Is it safe for my customers to send
personal information, including credit card numbers, over
the internet?
SecurePay encrypts all transaction details before sending
them across the internet, so the details of the message cannot
be seen by anyone except SecurePay's Payment Server.
My website does not have SSL (Secure
Socket Layer). How can I use SecurePay's Online products and
protect my customers' credit card details?
SecureLink is an HTML form which runs on a secure web
server. You just post the required variables to our payment
page, the customer fills in their credit card number in the
secure form, and we redirect the response back to your site.
What level of encryption does SecurePay
use?
SecurePay uses a 128-bit digital server certificate provided
by VeriSign. This level of encryption is currently considered
realistically unbreakable.
Can I use my work PC to manually process
payments on my customers' behalf?
If you have the customers' permission to take payments from
their credit cards, SecurePay can provide you with our SecurePOS
product, which is a light Java application which runs from
any PC on any operating system with internet connectivity.
Payment details are manually entered, and a response received
in real time.
